We've talked about "will power", "accepting help", "addiction as a Brain disease", "permissible Selfishness", and we've Categorized Addiction as a Disease, primarily a Mental Disorder. Ooh, I hate that last part! I don't want to be Mentally Ill! That's just as bad as speaking up in a 12 Step meeting and saying, "Hi, I'm Dave and I'm an Addict." I don't know… maybe accepting myself as Mentally Ill, was even worse. Look… those are words, just words and You can get used to accepting that they apply to You! You Can! I did! I didn't want to, but I did. I did, because I wanted to live life again, and everyone who knew anything about what was wrong with me told me I had to accept those things or I was eventually going to Die from Addiction! You see, "Acceptance is the Key to Recovery from Habitual Drug Abuse and Chemical Dependency." The following quote is the most Prolific statement that an Addict/Alcoholic will ever find. With the application of this paragraph, new paths become available, and new doors open for YOU…
"Acceptance": From the Alcoholics Anonymous "Big Book", 3rd Edition, Pg. 449, 4th Edition, Pg. 417…
"And acceptance is the answer to all my problems today. When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing, or situation--some fact of my life--unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing, or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in God's world by mistake. Until I could accept my alcoholism, I could not stay sober; unless I accept life completely on life's terms, I cannot be happy. I need to concentrate not so much on what needs to be changed in the world as on what needs to be changed in me and in my attitudes."
